Multi Segment™

Multi Segment™ LED Technology (MST) is used to change and display prices.
MST is designed for long-life, highly redundant and energy efficient applications. It offers “analog” type of characters. PCU’s using MST are refered to as PCUM.

  • Each PCUM can contain maximum four LED digits plus a decimal point.
  • The LED’s are driven with direct current, resulting in a longer lifetime and more redundancy with respect to multiplexing technology. The characters are built up out of at least 30 segments, each containing a number of LED’s. This results in a higher redundancy and nicer characters. The electrical current to each segment is monitored. A failure of every segment is detected and reported to the PCC. Standard, an error message is sent to a service center if three or more segments fail.
  • Each PCUM contains an ambient light sensor. The light intensity is communicated to the PCC. The PCC calculates the average light intensity per side of the sign and sends the “dimming factors” per side of the sign to the appropriate PCU’s. This to compensate between the sunny and shady side of the sign.
  • Each PCU contains 2 temperature sensors.
One temperature sensor measures the ambient temperature on the LED position and this data is sent to the PCC. If this temperature gets critical, the PCC can dim the PCUM to protect the LED’s.
The second sensor measures the temperature of the heat-sink onto which the power electronics driving the LED’s is mounted. If temperature gets critical the PCU will also start dimming autonomously. This is done to protect the driving electronics.
  • Optionally the system can display a mix of prices from POS and other systems. Because of the network concept slave signs showing the same prices can easily be added to the same PCC.
